Why did you join BAP?
I initially heard about BAP while I was attending Edmonds College. One of my accounting professors, Jason Lucero was invited to their Banquet in 2019 and took some students, including me! I really enjoyed the event and was in awe of what the organization did and still does. When I transferred to UW Bothell, I planned to join BAP because I wanted to connect with my peers and also build my network in the professional area.
What did you get out of BAP?
BAP was a place that helped me practice my leadership skills. I like to stay behind and let others lead, and I follow. With BAP I faced my fears and took the challenge because I knew I would need these tools to start my career. In addition, I gained a lifetime of friendships that made my BAP experience the best.
Where are you working now & what tips and/or advice can you give to potential members?
I’m currently working at Deloitte as an auditor. One tip that I can share with new members is that BAP is a place that welcomes anyone. If you’re unsure where to go for resources in accounting, finance, and MIS, UW Bothell BAP Mu Psi is the place. BAP is also a great resource if you are looking into CPA, internships, or a group of lifetime friends.
Why did you join BAP?
It’s not unknown to UWB students that there are a few honors societies that have the prestige, resources, and people to help guide the way to a successful career. Beta Alpha Psi is one of them. A goal I wished to achieve as I entered university was to benefit from a club while also giving to the community. BAP was a platform for doing so. When I transferred from UW Seattle to the Bothell campus, I knew this marked a change, and joining BAP was the start of it.
What did you get out of BAP?
Not only does BAP have an abundance of professional development resources, but they also have international and local connections that have lasted generations. These connections gave me an easier way to network. Once people in the industry knew my name, it was as if the opportunities to meet other people were endless. And you know what they say – network is net worth.
Where are you working now & what tips and/or advice can you give to potential members?
I currently work at Deloitte in the audit & assurance service line. My tips are always the same. 1) You don’t know what you don’t know. If you aren’t proactive about communicating your wants and needs, how would someone know that you are interested in investment banking, want to open up a cafe in the future, or are passionate about philanthropy? If you don’t tell them, they don’t know. And if they don’t know, they can’t help you. So, let them know! 2) Be proactive. The most important thing is reflecting on your goals and moving toward them. If you wish to achieve something, go to the places and find the opportunities that have the resources for you to do so! 3) Always continue growing and learning! It will broaden your view of the world and the people around you!
